The Problem
What We Were Retained to Evaluate
Structural repairs were being performed within an occupied building under an active permit, requiring engineering observation and documentation at critical stages of construction. With portions of the structural work becoming concealed as repairs progressed, timely field inspections were necessary to evaluate reinforcement, shoring, concrete placement, and other repair conditions for general conformance with the approved structural documents. Coordination with the contractor was also essential to maintain the construction schedule and support permit closeout.
THE ENGINEERING RESPONSE
How We Approached It
We reviewed the approved structural repair documents before construction and coordinated field observations at critical stages of the repair work. Shoring and temporary supports, reinforcement installation, concrete placement, repair materials, and other relevant structural conditions were observed and documented as the work progressed.
Field conditions requiring clarification or modification were addressed through coordination with the contractor and design team, allowing issues to be evaluated during construction rather than deferred until project closeout.
